Notes on ProductMeridian 588 CD Player Meridian is the leader in high-end CD playback, and has held that pre-eminent position since 1984. Since then we have introduced 20 CD player models – each one advancing performance. This steady process of redefining CD has been recognised by more than 50 industry awards and has made Meridian synonymous with the very best in CD. Meridian’s finest CD players to date are the venerable 508 and the astonishing 800 CD/DVD Machine. 508 alone has enjoyed more than 20 awards, including a Class ‘A’ rating from Stereophile, who, when faced with the superb performance of 800, had to add the Class A+ rating! Product/588 CD Player Meridian players do not use ‘off the peg’ solutions but are designed and built from the ground up to provide the finest sound, the most robust disc handling and lasting quality. Following our great success with 800 we have decided to bring some of its advanced technology to a very exciting new player – the 588. 588 uses a precision ROM drive to read information from the discs using a technology developed for the Meridian 800 Series. This drive’s precise pickup system is optimised for CD and CDR playback. The data from the disc is checked, corrected and decoded using an extremely powerful digital processing system. Within the data path are three large memory buffers – each one in turn establishing smoother data flow so that the final audio has the lowest possible jitter. These steps all ensure that you can enjoy the highest quality audio from your discs. Advanced digital and analogue design and construction techniques combine to provide the highest performance. 588 is built using 6-layer PCBs, 7 separate power supplies, the latest surface-mount technology and components which have been carefully selected to optimise sound quality. The 588 operating software has been developed by Meridian and benefits from our vast expertise on CD navigation, playability and sound quality. In addition to CD the 588 can replay MP3 discs giving the best access to playback long-playing audio collections on a main system. MP3 discs can include personal albums (MP3 files optionally grouped as albums by directory) on a Recordable CD (CD-R). An RS232 port supports full control of the player and provides for future software updates. Evolved from Meridian’s 508 and 800 CD players ROM drive used for precise recovery of data Multiple buffer stages to give astonishingly low jitter Error correction ten times more effective using ROM system High-quality 2-channel output using 192kHz 24-bit DACs Full RS232 control and status Software updateable How can a ROM drive be so good? ROM drives recover the data from computer discs perfectly. Loading a computer program rarely fails due to the ROM drive. Therefore, extracting the data from a CD can be done without error. In fact, 588 will often read the data from the disc more than once just to be sure it has it right. Normally, however, a computer pays no attention to how smoothly the data flows from the disc. For high quality audio the final audio must flow very smoothly – without jitter. That’s where our special technology comes in. From leaving the drive, the information is in the hands of very sophisticated digital audio circuitry to give both the highest data integrity and the lowest jitter. Sound Quality 588 maximises sound quality by reducing jitter to very low levels. Unlike other players that try to lower jitter by controlling drive vibration, the 588’s triple buffer memory architecture abolishes this problem forever. In 588 the audio is controlled using a precise master oscillator located within the final output section. The result of this sophisticated effort is a clear, open, authoritative sound. The digital output is precision re-clocked. The stereo analogue output uses 192kHz 24-bit advanced DACs combined with a superb direct-coupled audiophile-standard output amplifier. Use 588 with: 501 Preamplifier 502 Preamplifier 561 Surround 568 Surround 861 Surround 504 FM Tuner DSP8000 Speaker DSP6000 Speaker DSP5500 Speaker DSP5000 Speaker MSR Remote Technical Specification Formats: CD Audio (CD-DA), CD-R, MP3. Notes on ProductThe G06 is an ideal player for many applications, such as an integrated analogue stereo system comprising the G06 CD player and the G51 receiver, while the G06’s coaxial digital outputs will drive Meridian DSP loudspeakers directly to form a superb quality all-digital stereo CD replay system. At the heart of the G06 are fully-integrated electronics and a computer-style CD/DVD-ROM drive. This allows multiple high-speed re-reads to ensure accurate recovery of data from even the most difficult disc. This feature alone provides ten times the error correction of a conventional CD player. The G06 maximises audio quality by reducing jitter to extremely low levels, for a smooth open, well-defined sound and pinpoint stereo imaging. The player utilises 192 kHz, 24-bit digital to analogue converters for the very highest analogue quality, along with superb analogue design. The result is dramatically improved stereo imaging, and a clear, open and authoritative sound. Analogue, coax S/PDIF and optical Toslink outputs are provided. “The G06 may be Meridian’s entry-level CD player, but it doesn’t look like a concession to budget values …as well designed and finished as any we’ve seen. High on its list of achievements is detail. ” – 87% - Best buy from Hi-Fi Choice magazine, July 2007

Notes on ProductUpsampling allows the Meridian G08.2 to deliver the best from the Compact Disc medium, which is capable of exceptional results. Upsampling enables filtering to take place far beyond the range of human hearing, as well as offering other audible benefits right across the audio band, for ultimate transparency from a CD source.A high-speed drive ensures accurate playback of even the most difficult disc. Powerful on-board DSP up-samples the data to 24 bits, and to a sample rate of 176.4 kHz for digital to analogue conversion to drive the analogue outputs, and 88.2 kHz for the digital outputs. The G08 also employs triple buffering to minimise jitter, and therefore maximise HF transparency and stereo image precision and stability. All digital data is accurately re-clocked. Multiple power supplies ensure that digital and analogue circuitry are kept apart.
